This page is to detail some of the buildings I have added to the Kimington Quay layout. I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to modelling buildings, so the creation of buildings for the layout has very much been a voyage of discovery for me. There have been plenty of lessons learnt along the way and I hope with each building I am getting a little better...
Quay Masters Cottage
The Quaymasters cottage acts as a small scenic break to a fiddle stick that contains the control panel for the layout. To act as a scenic break it is positioned right at the edge of the layout, which means getting a good photograph of it is tricky! This was a Fair Price Models kit, which I covered with polyfilla and then hand scribed. The roof tiles are made from the plasticky fliers that come through the letter box every so often. Drains are gutters are from the Modelu range, with the roof barge boards made from wooden coffee stirrers. The cottage has a detailed office interior with working lights. There is more modelling to go, to blend this building into a small cameo scene.
The local
This was the first building I completed for the layout, which was built from a Petite Models kit. Again it was polyfilla placed over a wooden shell and then hand scribed. The building also has a detailed interior with working lights. It is positioned at the far end of the layout and can only be accessed by a footpath over the line, due to the awkward positioning at the end of the layout. I am sure the beer deliveries come in from the a different direction - who knows! Again there is more modelling to go, to finish the detailing around the building.
